In this weeks issue of Steppin Out magazine, “Melrose Place” vixen Katie Cassidy sits down with Chaunce Hayden and talks about her relationship with her father, 70’s pop star, David Cassidy. Katie also talks about her underage drinking arrest and beating out Jessica Simpson for “Dallas.”

ON HER FATHER DAVID CASSIDY:

Katie Cassidy: I never saw the TV documentary on my father.

Chaunce Hayden: No interest?

Katie Cassidy: We really don’t have that kind of relationship. We don’t really discuss much about the business or my career or his career. I don’t know why. We just never really had gone there. For the most part we only talk about my personal life as opposed to my business life.

Chaunce Hayden: How would you describe your relationship with your father?

Katie Cassidy: He didn’t raise me. So he’s more like a friend if anything. He doesn’t pass judgment, which is really nice in any aspect of my life whether it be work or personal. I can bounce ideas off of him, but that’s it. It’s nothing too complicated.

ON GETTING ARRESTED FOR UNDERAGE DRINKING:

Katie Cassidy: I was just two weeks away from my 21st birthday. All I can say is, thank God I had chance to have a life before I was famous or a celebrity or whatever you want to call it. Because you live and you learn.

Chaunce Hayden: What did you learn?

Katie Cassidy: I was in the passenger seat of a car like I said, you live and you learn. I’m 22 now so I can’t really talk about underage drinking because I’m not underage. It was an experience that happened and I’m glad it happened when it did.

Chaunce Hayden: Why?

Katie Cassidy: Because I had a life before any of this happened. I think it’s really important for kids to grow up. Part of that is learning and going through things and experiencing them on your own so you’ll be able to know what’s right and wrong. I didn’t have the show than so the incident wasn’t really talked about as much. I’m glad that it happened and I learned. But I can’t sit here and tell you I’ll never drink again.

ON BEATING OUT JESSICA SIMPSON FOR “DALLAS”:

Chaunce Hayden: Didn’t you beat out her sister, Jessica Simpson for a starring role on the film version of the TV show “Dallas”?

Katie Cassidy: I’ve heard that. I don’t necessarily know what went down exactly with Jessica for “Dallas”. But yeah, I did end up getting that role. But the movie never got made. So…… That’s just how it goes. You meet people all over this town who you beat out or they beat you out. It works both ways. You just have to be happy and blessed with what you have. I’m sure she is, and all is good. — SOURCE

Cassidy’s character, ruthless Hollywood publicist Ella, is the opposite of Lauren. “She’s crass, she’s bitchy, she’s bossy,” says Cassidy, 22, a soft-spoken blonde who’s the daughter of singer David Cassidy. “She knows what she wants and she’ll go to any length to get it. She’s the one you love to hate.

“What’s cool about my character is we can push the limit with her clothes, and she can get away with it. We’ve tried some pretty amazing numbers,” she adds, referring to Ella’s tight lemon yellow Versace suit, fuchsia Yves Saint Laurent sheath, and a batwing-sleeved chiffon Louis Verdad gown. For today’s pool scene, she wears a cutout one-piece La Perla swimsuit with a floor-length, sequined chiffon Alberta Ferretti caftan and jeweled Chanel sandals. “This is just Ella’s hanging-out-by-the-pool-looking-fabulous outfit,” she says with a laugh, as a production assistant hands her a robe to keep her warm on the air-conditioned set. “When I’m not working, I literally wear boyfriend jeans and a T-shirt. I don’t do my hair and makeup…whatever. – SOURCE

Unlike Simpson-Wentz, who has a strong bond with her own family in real life, the character is “desperate for family, desperate for love, desperate to connect,” says the star. “In a way she looks up to Ella, who’s played by Katie [Cassidy], because she’s got it together from the outside. She sees that and she’s like ‘How am I ever going to fit in this town and place?’” – SOURCE

Also, Katie’s official site was updated recently. It turns out she has a fourth tattoo we didn’t know about, but she’s had it for ages! According to her site, “She also has the year of her maternal grandmother’s birth year “1922″ on her hip. It was her first tattoo and dedicated it to her grandma.” Pretty cool! :)

HitFix: Since it sounds like you’re in the dark on where things went after you left, what’s your hunch? Give me some theories…

DC: Oh, I’ve blamed that little girl, from the beginning. Not to be trusted. I’ve always thought it might have been Abby, you know? Every week, we’d be like “Who do you think it is? Who do you think it is?” and talk amongst ourselves and try to convince each other on who we thought it was and from the very beginning, I created my own scenario, based on new evidence whatsoever, but I was like, “I think it’s going to be Abby, because that might be cool.” I don’t know how they would tell that story, but it might be her. Then I switched every week, like “Oh, it’s the sheriff!” and then “Oh, it’s Jimmy, the native kid.” So I’m kinda anxious and really interested to see what new information they’re going to start revealing about these peoples’ relationships that will make it more clear. That’s where the story is at now. You definitely know the premise, but what you always constantly learn are the secrets that they hold. They’re not necessarily out-of-nowhere secrets, where sometimes you’re like “Well, if I’d know that, of course I would have known.” But in this case, it works because the people involved, seeing it through their eyes, have to earn those secrets being told, they have to discover them. And that changes the game plan for them and for the audience. As long as they keep that consistent, it should be really interesting.

HitFix: Do you think viewers paying attention might be able to figure out the clues, or will there be a lot of explaining done in the finale?

DC: I think a little of both. Let’s say, after the finale, you’re like, “Really? Does that really work?” Then I think if you’d go back and rewatch them, you’d be able to see the clues. But to remember the clues? I don’t know. I probably won’t be able to . It’s way too much information, since you don’t really know what even is a clue. At this point, every move that someone makes, you could be like “That’s a clue!” There are clues all over the place, I’m sure, but I’m not that good at figuring out what’s a clue and what’s not. They’re doing a really good job of, not tricking you, but making you believe something else is important, while you miss the important thing. I feel like you could figure it out and you probably will by the end, but if you go back, you might see more clues from the beginning. I’m hoping that they put that in there.
